How To See Who Checked In On Facebook Business Page

Is Your Business Using the Facebook Check In Feature?

The Facebook Check-In Feature should be a well promoted and capitalized feature for social media marketing strategy.    First, as a business owner, to use this feature you must have a Facebook Business Page.   And hopefully that business page is relatively up to date and being used.

So how does it work – and why is it important.

I have to say straight up that I love this function of Facebook Mobile.  The trend is definitely moving from talking about what you are doing to talking about where you are.

Anyone with a smart phone can "Check-In" or publicly acknowledge where they are at any given time.   This has many benefits, especially if the place being "Checked-In" to is your business:

  • the check-in is visible to the friends of the person checking in – providing additional exposure to the business.
  • the check-in can be used to leverage additional sales of products or services. If this is encouraged from the actual business location (and not advertised on Facebook) then the business owner is complying with the Facebook Guidelines for Promotions.

Facebook Check-Ins provides valuable information about your business that a potential customer would look for. If a check-in is seen on a mobile device, the user can even click on the map to bring up directions! But why should you ask your customers to check-in on Facebook? Simply put, each Facebook Check-In serves as a personal referral from one friend to another. Every time a customer checks in, they are endorsing your business. Think about this! People don't always share information about place unless they think their friends will be interested.

Aside from personal endorsements, Facebook Check-Ins engage customers with your business. What do we mean exactly? Facebook will automatically highlight photos of friends who have been to your location, reviews they've made and even photos from your Facebook page. Facebook will also give you the opportunity to promote a Facebook-exclusive offer. Perhaps you could offer a discount to first-time visitors or promote an upcoming sale.

One of the most valuable features of the Facebook Check-In is impressions (the number of times your post is seen by a person in their newsfeed). We mentioned earlier that when someone checks-in, they are recommending your business to their Facebook friends. Some of those customers checking in on Facebook have hundreds, even THOUSANDS of Facebook friends making this among the most powerful of ways to encourage word-of-mouth referrals.

You're probably asking yourself how to get people to start checking-in? You can start by simply asking. Train your staff to encourage check-ins from those who are in your business.

Where Can You See Who Has Checked In?

On your business Facebook Page – Go to Notifications – Click on that.   When the notifications left sidebar opens up – then Click on Activity.

There you will see – CHECK Ins.

A Customer Service Hint

Go that extra mile and thank the customer for checking in to your business … they didn't have to!   Make a comment about their photo, or share their photo to your business page – thanking them for CHECKING IN to your business.   That little bit of direct customer interaction – goes a million miles.

There are a million creative ways to use the CHECK IN FEATURE in keeping with Facebook's guidelines.

This is just another way to directly interact with your customer.

Where Can you See How Many Check In A Page Has?

You can see how many check-ins your business page has – it is listed on the right sidebar under COMMUNITY.

The Number is from the day the page was created.

Example of some pages:

  • Big Nose Kate's Saloon – Tombstone AZ – Created: October 21, 2009 – Check Ins: 74,646
  • The O.K. Corral – Created: July 8, 2009 – Check Ins: 44,852
  • Tombstone Monument Ranch – Created: March 3, 2014  Check Ins: 6,992

The Bottom Line

  • Research how other businesses use Facebook Check Ins.
  • Encourage your customers to Check In to your business.
  • Thank them on their Check In Post on Facebook for Checking In to your business.
